FEBRUARY 2008
A Message from the
President of CREW Northern Virginia
Dear fellow Chapter members,
It is with much enthusiasm that I write you as your
new President. As 2008 gets underway, our Northern
Virginia Chapter has great momentum and many areas
in which to be proud. Before I proceed, I must
acknowledge Elizabeth Hurley, my predecessor.
Elizabeth has been such a strong and effective
leader for us all. She has helped me a lot in this
transition and her “shoes” will be “big ones to
fill”. I am fortunate, in fact we are all fortunate,
to have a strong, seasoned, and committed Board. You
will be hearing from each of them about their plans
for the coming year.
As many of you recall, during our annual “State of
the Real Estate Market”, Dr. Fuller and the other
distinguished panelists portrayed our region and our
profession as “weathering” these unsettling economic
times better than most markets. Yet I maintain, that
throughout 2008, the year will likely be marked with
continued economic strain and added stress to our
already busy and hectic professional lives. It is
during these often uncertain times that our network,
alliances, friendships and camaraderie must “rise to
the occasion”. I strongly believe that this is the
real asset and strength of our CREW chapter. Those
of you, who know me well, know me as one who is
optimistic, maintains a positive mental attitude and
approaches life and my career as “seeing the glass
half full” versus “half empty”. I also am a realist
and pragmatic. We should all pledge to stick
together, help one another, and build even tighter
alliances during these times. I promise each of you
that I will be doing all I can in this area and
again this marks probably our greatest strength.
One exciting noteworthy event this year will be our
CREW Mid-Atlantic Conference. We are one of the
first groups to be at the new Gaylord National
Resort and Convention Center during this
Presidential election year. We have so many
distinguished speakers and presenters, among them
being Washington’s favorite political couple, Mary
Matalin and James Carville, who promise to be
exciting keynote speakers! Mark your calendars for
April 16-17 and start promoting and talking it up
with your business associates. In addition, there
are many opportunities for Sponsorship of this very
well attended event.
My Top 5 personal goals and aspirations for our
Chapter this year include:
* Foster increased Networking opportunities
* Continue our focus on “high quality” monthly programs
* Build a stronger alliance and greater collaboration with CNN
(CREW National Network), i.e. DC, Maryland, and
Northern Virginia
* Attract younger members to our Chapter and ensure value for them
* Implement a strategy and game plan to attain a membership level
of 200 by 2010
In closing, I am reminded of the saying that a
“rising tide lifts all boats”. I envision a bright
2008 for our Chapter. Get involved. Join a
Committee. Offer to contribute. Make a difference.
Sincerely,
Donna Thuotte Martin
